I just got off the phone with a really amazing coral wholesaler based in LA.  We met them at the MACNA show and they offered to donated a few corals.

Well they are living up to that promise in well what can only be called jaw dropping fashion

they are sending us 156 different coral pieces filling 8 standard shipping boxes.  I am litterally dizzy.  The list includes more than 50 acropora but that hardly make the top of the list. monti milli, favia favites, doughnuts, acans, OMG the wholesale value is well (and I hate this word) gi-normous!!!!

If I understand them correctly the corals are leaving tonight to be in Cleveland cargo tomorrow.  If that is true, I will be skipping the meeting and i am sure you will all understand

If not I will bring the list to drool over and figure the corals will be shipped Monday for Tuesday pick up.

I think I might need a couple new tubes of super glue LOL

Yep, I do promise to post picks as soon as I can of the new stuff

If anyone could donate Dave about 5 pounds of coffee and a couple dozen doughnuts I'm sure he'd be grateful. He's got a loooooooong accilmation and staring session ahead of him.

Also........maybe have a medic on hand for when he goes into shock opening those boxes.

P.S. Now that you tease us with a topic, we demand photos.

Hey Dave, why don't you share the wealth and donate a couple to the first three people who responded to this thread

That is so awesome that all these vendors and companies are donating products, coral etc to your classroom! Look forward to the pictures after you get them all acclimated. Makes me want to see the tank even more now.

the cut off for donations was after the first poster,  me LOL.    Of course I will be sharing coral frags once it all gets going.  Program supporters always get free or very good deals on the rare stuff and friends of the program get very fair prices

I am still dizzy this morning thinking about it: I am on Southwest air cargo tracker every few minutes.  We should be at Mid Way airport at noon and Cleveland by 3

We are in full blown scramble mode right now:  setting up a 33 long as a temp house for some guys

Clearly, I have no hope of making the meeting but will try to post a few un packing picks if all goes well

in my experiences dave a separate quarantine tank is by far the best way to go when recieving large shipments. especially sps.
they are already stressed and dipping them for a main display can sometimes be too much and off a good number of pieces. also be sure to change water and skim the heck out of the tank as much as possible. don't be fooled they will be slimy.
if you can make it in tomorrow to do a good size water change that would be your best bet. it gives the coral enough time to slough off what they can so you can actually get it out in a water change. i don't know how familiar you are with these large cross country shipments but if you have any questions feel free to pm, email, or text me.

unfortunately i can't offer my services as i have people expecting me tonight at the meeting and i have to be up super early for the cincy swap tomorrow. BUT, if you do find yourself in need of any temporary equipment don't be afraid to ask. if i have anything you can use i can at least set it out on my porch for you if you can pick it up. hope everything works great for you my man.

Wow.

:: queue the 'Freebie' clip from Monster Garage ::

That's quite the score! What a great thing for you, the students and the programs. Enjoy all the new pieces. We'll miss ya at the meeting, but know you'll be having fun playing in your tank.

I don't love the idea but will not be able to isolate everything:  there are a lot of stores that could not handle this many corals especially considering the sizes some of these pieces are listed as on the invoice.

8 crammed boxes is a lot of corals !!!!!!

two more hours til the corals reach Mid-Way

that is a ton. but as far as the smaller pieces go fit as many as you can in the isolated tank and reserve the larger pieces for the main system as they tend to be a lil more touchy. just be sure to at least visually inspect everything for pests.

I took a bunch of pics while I spend the last 2.5 hours just opening bags and setting the corals into the tank.  that is not attaching or placing pieces for good, that is just putting them in the tank to keep them from kicking the bucket.

my hands are prunes, but the grin on my face is a  mile wide.  The 412 is offically jammed with corals

When I figure out where I left the password for photo bucket and remember how to use it without smashing my lap top I will post pics.

Be warned that straight out of the bag some of these corals will make your eyes pop out of your head

I think right now my fav is the bleeding apple doughnut  although I am sure some of the acans and chalice are going to be killer when they color back up

I have never kept sun colors before but now have three different types including one that has a green body with orange suns.  None of those three are colors I have ever seen before

I think I wore out the phase "that is a sick looking coral" after the first hour

Green sun with orange polyps? Freaking sweet!

I've seen the Bleeding Apple before in person ($$$$$$)......such an insanely nice piece. Wait until it feeds. Your mind = blown

Alright Dave, you have us all on the edge of our seats. If you can't get in to photo-bucket then set up a new account and upload some photo's already.

Not sure how this is going to turn out

this was about half way through the 5 hours of gluing today:  still a lot of corals laying on the bottom waiting to find a home

I am about 80% done now but really tired and sore from bending over the tank

Dave try 300x300, or right. click on a photo then left click in the message window and use the right click and select past.
