I'm working on a Bio-Filter for the new tiny pond I've just added to my yard. I have most all of the parts I need with the exception of a Bio-media and a course filter floss.
So in keeping with the current theme of this project (in-expensive). Does anyone have some Bio-balls or other suitable media available on the cheap side?

Seems to me that I read somewhere someone used those cheap plastic bath scrubbies.

+1 I almost forgot about those. A friend of mine uses them on his pond and it stays crystal clear.

Susan, thanks for the tip. I may need to look at the Dollar Store for those.

OK, I'll take them. I'll be in town Sunday sometime to meet someone @ Toledo Aquarium for some pickling lime. I can shoot your way either before or after.

OK I stopped at the Dollar store and picked up 20 of these for $10.00 then off to the Home store to get a tote and egg crate $25.02. The bulk head fitting I picked up from a pool supply store for $12.00. The real bummer here is that the filter is going to cost a lot more that the rest of the build.
I'll add some photos as the project comes together.

Spent about an hour working on it while it rains.
A shot of some of the parts

The lower level, upside down

Dry fit. the lowest level in place.

Scratch pads, there is enough to cover the egg create completely

Sorry to the ladies I didn't buy any pink or purple scrub pads

The finial level will support a layer of Bio-balls. Then a spray bar will spray the surface from the pond.
