I promised I would not catalog the tank anymore, so I have no better idea on this algae than to give a description and then ask the question.  I bought  some live rock with macroalgae on it.  The LFS told me that it would be good for the tank.  I bought it thinking that if it came in water from the ocean and was harvested directly, it would be good.  Funny how that has backfired.

I've eliminated several kinds of algae from this rock from the Indo-pacific.  However, it has a green algae that looks like fishnet stockings.  Sometimes, it is a pine green and sometimes it is a blue spruce tree green.  I can only say that its not hair and its not cyano.

While I don't have a lot of snails, I do have 4 different kinds and nobody thinks its a tasty treat.  I don't have any crabs or fish. I thought I could starve it out so I tried three skimmers for a couple of weeks.  I use RODI water and change weekly.   I tried increasing Mg and kept it elevated for 3 weeks, no change, so brought it back down.

This past weekend, I started vodka dosing  with MB7 on Saturday.  While I notice increased skimmate, I also seem to be noticing increased growth.  This would seem to make sense.  My question is if I keep dosing will it eventually clean the water and kill this stuff off or am I better off chucking this $250 rock pile out into the yard (to join my last temper tantrum rock) and buying new from a better source?   I'm open to new ideas, but I'm really thinking this is a bunch of trouble for 25 lbs. of rock, especially since you can get rock for a lot less than $10 per lb.   Thanks.

$10 per pound! Wow you got hosed! Anyway, the only real way would be a pic - once its identified you can find out how to get rid of it.

get us a pic so we know for sure what we are dealing with.  I can not speak of the dosing as I do not follow that plan

but rest assured that every algae (even brysophysis) can be beat with the right plan.  No plan is good when guess who we are fighting though

goodness sakes do not toss the rock

Wendy , any luck getting a pic of the funky algae or a search for an internet site that might have something similar.

I am sure we can work together and get this figured out but I would hate to waste your money and time by just guessing as to what we are up against and then direct you in the wrong direction

No.  I pulled some out and brought it into the office, slapped it on my secretary's desk and told her to stop ewwwing and snap a picture with her cell phone.  The problem is now its on the cell phone, which doesn't do me much good as I doubt you can see it.  She is going to see what technology is necessary to get it here, but only after she completes my dictation.

Hmmmm... the photos are not very good and it almost looks brownish red, but it looks green and blue green in the tank.  I'll try and hunt around on the internet for some real photos.
