I went up to the auction at the end of the American Livebearer Association convention a couple weeks ago.
I only took one bag of fish and a couple plants- It sounded like it might be coals to Newcastle.
Lots of really weird livebearers! Lots of them weren't in the reference book I took along. About 80% of the fish were wild-types that were from specific locations. There were also some egg-layng fish that were sold at the end of the auction.
I ended up with some breeding populations of Xiphophorus nezahualcoyotl, and Xiphophorus alvarezi. Also some Xiphophorous malinche females and a few more Limia sp. "Tiger". I also ended up with a bag of Tiger Endlers for a buck, because the auctioneer said they were Limia. They're nice looking fish, though.
I also got a population of Alfaro cultratus. They are very compressed, and go zipping around the tank like danios. Cool fish.
NO anableps were in the auction. There were some related Jenysia lineata that Itried to get, but didn't pay enough.
I was also hoping to get some Phallichthys amates or Carlhubbsia stuarti, but there wasn't a single bag of either. If anybody is getting fish shipped for aquabid or ?, and the seller has either of 'em, let me know.
The auction ended at 4:00. This is mostly due to a guest auctioneer from the West coast who did a German-style auction. This made things move very fast, but many of the bidders were scared off by it.
