 Hello  ,

I am hoping  smoeone here can  advise me on  how  difficult  it is to raise  tomato clowns fry ? I found a pair for  sae  , and   I  am interested in trying them . I  don't  know  very much  about  spawning  marine fish though. I have   lots of  experiance  with  livebearers , cichlids ,plecos  etc.  The  guy that  was selling them  told me   that  raising the fry can  be  tricky. I was  wondering  if  artificial rotifers , golden pearls   or  decapped  BS  would  be   ok   foods for   the fry,  how large a tank  do the pair   need   etc. They are a   pair for  sure  I saw  the  pot  with the eggs   yesterday. However the I did not see any  wrigglers .

Anyone  with  experiance  spawning   clowns  please   fill me in  .  I  tihnk it  would be  alot of  fun    as  long as they are not   a great deal harder than   small cichlids etc.  If they grow  as  fast as  cichlids  I might even  be able to swpa /sell and   help myself  support  this  dang  aquarium  habit .

  Thanks

  Tim

I don't know much about cichlids... any thing actually. I had a pair of angels many years ago that would spawn and I'd eventually find juviniles in the old Supreme back filter...

Clowns are fairly easy, my tomatoes spawn all the time, and I've watched them develope to the point of being able to see two silvery eyes in each egg... the next morning they are gone without a trace. You'll need carefully controlled tanks, and lots of rotifers to get them through the first couple of weeks until they become able to hunt baby brine shrimp.... My guess is, probably a little different from cichlids, but doable. There is a pretty good book availabl that will guide you through the process, I'll see if I can find mine and pass along the info.
