OK, so my tank had a water change today, but all my tanks have been seriously neglected over the past several months due to my having health issues that interfere with my being able to maintain them properly.

This tank is seriously overgrown, and I'll be pruning copiously(and therefore bringing plants to meeting if I can get a ride there!) soon.  But for now, the tank looks more than a little rough.

But, here it is. I'm reluctant to post because it really looks like crap, but then when I get it back in good shape those pix will look that much better I suppose.

Not sure why it came out looking so dark. It's got 3x the light of the tropical tank.

You did a water change today?  You are tougher than me, girlfriend!  I'm so far behind it isn't even funny.

Susan, "WE" did a water change today.  My favorite part... fishing for duck weed.  What a job to give someone with OCD... GEEZ!

Oh HECK no!  Kimberly did the water change, while I fussed around with the filter pads!  She was awesome.   My marine-only friend with algae issues offered to come over and do a water change on my tank that smells like mud, is overgrown with algae and has duckweed all over the place.  Now THAT is a true friend!

I was a little worried knowing how my "au natural" tank makes her twitch even when it's clean... but she was a trooper.  She didn't get icked out and got right in there and siphoned all the crap she could out of there.  She must have taken out 30 gallons of mud-colored water.  It was bad.

Then Cindy (aka "The Warden") wouldn't let Kimber empty the buckets, and that stand-off was something to see.  You have to know the three of us.  Kimber and I are sort of um... well...:::thinking how to phrase it delicately:::: forceful... yeah, forceful personalities.  One might even say "steamrollerish" when we get our minds on something.  Then there is Cindy... quiet, meek, gentle, quiet mild, quiet, shy  & did I say QUIET Cindy...

She marched right up to Kimber and thundered out the order: "PUT THOSE DOWN! " Let me just tell you, I have NEVER seen that expression on Kimber's face that I saw that moment.  Kimberly looked at me, looked back at Cindy, who glared, pointed to the ground and said "DOWN" and Kimber put those buckets RIGHT down on the floor.  OMG, you just can't even imagine if you don't know the three of us.

It was also amusing when Kimber realized that although duckweed looks kind of cool, it isn't desirable. First she got all she could with the nets, then she was literally picking individual pieces out by hand, one at a time.  When I turned the current back on, she'd wait for it all to get blown into one area, then attack it again. It probably wasn't nice to ask the OCD friend to deal with the tank with the massive overgrowth of plants and the duckweed... But I really didn't think it through ahead of time, the duckweed thing...

But it sure was entertaining!

Oh Rob, you'd have been CRYING you'd have been laughing so hard!  Bless her heart!

And yes indeed, she IS a good friend.  That girl not only gets a  big old gold star, but one with GLITTER.  I'm lucky to count her friend- her heart's every bit as big and solid as that stand you built for her new tank.

OMG!  What a great friend she is!  Kimber, will you come over and work on my duckweed, please?  Here's a gold star for you!  (With glitter, of course.)

If you can get her to do it again in a couple of weeks, you might actually get rid of it.  It is possible, just barely.

Susan,

We WILL get RID of it!  I'm going to do another water change on Sunday afternoon before I head out of town on business.  How do you think duck weed would look in my tank?  It's pretty cool stuff, but a little evasive about being removed!  Thanks for the gold star... with glitter!
