The baby H. erectus seahorses are four weeks old today. The variation in size and development is increasing. The largest is almost an inch long. The smallest didn't make it, so we're down to 11.
There are two who appear to be lighter colored. I've seen several who are already exhibiting white rings on their tails.
Keeping up the baby brine shrimp production is a challenge; the bigger the horses, the more they eat. Came very close to running out of BBS, and losing the whole brood. The cat decided to push the BBS hatchery off the counter. At that point I had one day's worth of BBS, and it takes 24-36 hours to hatch them. The hatchery has been moved to a room the cat can't get into, and a second hatchery setup is on the way. Did I mention these guys eat like horses?
Tomorrow I'll start adding tiny pieces of frozen mysis to the tank. There are several who have begun scouring the tank bottom for food, so at least a few are ready to begin the transition.
I plan on keeping at least one out of this group. The others will be up for sale once they hit the 3 month point.
Someone asked about my tank setup for the horses: the breeding pair lives in an unaltered 24 gallon Current Aquapod - very simple setup. My other tank is a 24 gal reef tank. I love my little tanks
