somebody, anybody, help me change my mind. i was at OT today doing some much needed work on a few tanks when i get a call requiring me to go home and send a few e-mails. i thank god that i went.

while i was sitting on the computer just about to send an e-mail i heard what i thought was a semi driving through my apartment. little did i know that when i ran out to the living room i'd find two two foot catfish literally swimming through the room.

the noise i heard was my 140g hex falling apart. it wasn't the reseal job i did on it but the entire bottom shattering. so for the last few hours i've been sucking water through my carpet with the shop-vac and i feel like throwing in the towel.

i need a reason to stay in the hobby. someone help me out.

Buk, that sucks. Hopefully the insurance covers that, they try to weasel out of everything

did you remember to give the fish gods a sacrifical offering now that you took over OT? that is like rule #1 for retail fish stores. :-)  #2 is get ready to get worked to death with no fun time. (FYI, Rule #2 cannot be used to appease the gods)

Maybe MARE did it for you earlier. They just didn't see the forwarding message

first I want to say I am sorry to hear about your tank....

That being said, you are not allowed to quit!!! We need you to keep up your hobby and business. We are all here to support you, just let us know how we can help

OUch, sorry to hear that. I can semi relate...i had the back of my 75 blow off and all that water, salt, sand and rock was all over the place and my carpet is still faded because of the salt and sand still in it after steam cleaning it 3 times. Luckly it was when i was first setting it up and didnt have any fish in it  yet...just had to buy a new tank..(one of the many unexpected expenses).   Good luck I know its a real pain in the A$$ to clean up. Hopefully you had another tank to put what fish you could save into. And don't quit...being a newbie,,,you've helped me alot and I'd hate to see you quit....AND i want to come to OT and check it out and possibly buy a few things.  Hang in there.... It's ALL a learning experience,,,good, bad and indifferent, just some along the way are harder than others..

Thanks Mitzi

thanks everyone it really means a lot to read this. and thank you rob for the call.it wouldn't be as bad if that was all that went wrong today but oh well

on a happier note barring a mishap in transit i will have a full coral order in tomorrow with tons of hand picked beauties. if your not a salty person i've got two of the citizens of bigfishopolis up at OT right now hanging out in a 75g. i'll post up as soon as i know i have the order in the state.

here's the pictures promised in another thread.

big hydnophora (that's the sohal in the 180g at Ocean treasures. about 6")

6.5"x 4"montipora capricornis

purple millipora colony about 6"x 4"x 5"

14"seafan

just a teaser for saturday

Well, at least you aren't a serial killer like myself.  That's something, right?  Besides, you gotta stay in, I need all the help I can get!  But that really does suck about the tank.  I'm sorry about that.  How are the catfish?  If you have any box fans or the like, aim them into the room and it'll help dry the carpet quicker.

I'll have to chant louder next time.  They obviously missed it.  I'm sorry Buk, my next tank of death will be dedicated to you specifically, per Matt's request.

Nah Buk you have to stick with it.

Think of it this way. At least it wasn't a 180g stocked to the brim with SPS colonies (seen it on RC a few years ago).

thats true burks but it still sucks because now we have to clean all the water up. which is quite a bit.

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.

What kind of stand was it on? Was the tank sitting on foam?

If that wasn't it, it could have been a micro black hole. Check your roof for leaks!

OMG, how horrible.  What an awful experience.  I hope the fish are okay.
