To not hijack on Ben's scrubber thread:  Brad you bring up an interesting point.  Some swear by this food or that.  I think too many have seen polyps close on something and the owner think that the coral is feeding.  Hense the wide range of coral foods.

I stopped using them long ago after never seeing any difference between the added and what ever if anything of value comes out of the sump

On the other hand I know at least some corals can feed by direct absorbtion.  How big of a role do you think this mode of feeding plays with the sorts of corals we mostly keep?

I think that you will see increased growht rates in many LPS corals if you feed them. I don't think that the growth rate of sps is effected as much and it is kind of hard to tell exactally what they are eating. Art they actually consuming the food item or are they benefiting from the increase in nitrate in the water. I never really understood the people who put a ton of different kinds of filters and absorbent media on a tank to get their nitrates to zero only to turn around and dump a bunch of "stuff" in their tank to "feed" their coral.
