Hi and welcome to TRAC... rollin22s on the site has had a Piranah tank for many years and can probably give some pointers. He strolls on here every once in a while to grace us with his presences. You can always message him as well through the site. I'm sure others have too that can help you out.

My biggest tips for keeping Piranha is train them to eat frozen food. People always feed them goldfish but everytime you put "feeder" fish into your tank you can add new disease. Substrate doesn't really matter, it probably depends on what kind of filter you will have or what you like appearance wise. I have never kept a "cleaner" fish with them but someone else chim in here. Althought it probably depends on how big the cleaner fish is in compairison to your piranha. One more thing, if you are going to keep a few try to get them at the same time and make sure they are all about the same size. This will make it possible to keep a few for a long time, instead of one. Remember a big adult piranha is about 12" long.

I have had piranahs in the past and I have been told that if you keep them really well fed that they will not bother other tank inhabitants but the two that I had both had different personalities and I would not have trusted either. They need hiding places as well because they dont like bright tanks. You may find that you set up that 125 and have several small ones but as they get older the dominant male may very well kill off all others. I would also NOT feed them feeder goldfish. They have very little nutritional value. They are very messy eaters and as they get older they will eat quite a bit. They will need regular and larger water changes because of their eating habits. You may think about doubling the size of filter that you are going to use, mabye one inside and one outside. I fed mine frozen bloodworms, Mysis shrimp and Krill. They will nip at the fins of other fish and eat them so if your fish are missing fins this is normal. They grow back very quickly. They are a very rewarding fish with tons of personalty if taken care of correctly but too many folks just buy them to show their friends that they kill other fish. It took my fish quite a while before they let me watch them eat. Please dont get them if this is your reason. Other than that check this link out. http://www.firsttankguide.net/piranha.php
