I want to set up a closed loop on my 75 gallon reef. Does anyone have any photos of theirs to give me any idea what direction to take on this project?

My tank is not drilled so this system will go up over the top of the tank. I am planing 4 directional heads and 1 return.

O.K. I started my closed loop tonight. I thought while I'm doing this I would conceal the PVC with a new foam background. After spending about an hour laying out the PVC for the spray heads and deciding what direction I wanted them for the "best" flow, I started the foam and found that I bought the wrong color #@*&". So does anyone know where I can get Black spray foam?

I wish I could help but don't know where to find the black.  I do use a closed loop as part of my tank but it is pretty traditional.  I have four one inch drains and two returns but all of it comes through the bottom and is semi-hidden in the rock work

Went to Home Depot on Secor this morning and couldn't find it, someone directed me to the paint dept. and when I asked there the guy looked at me like I was nuts and said they don't make Black to which I replied Yes it is made. So he then said we don't carry it.

My thanks to Kimberly, she found 2 cans for me. It's in the outdoor lawn and garden center. Thanks Kimberly.... YOU ROCK!!!

I think "they don't make that" is a standard answer there.  I had the same problem with a wiring question.  I was standing right in front of the stuff when the guy send that the part was never made.

Glad you found it!!

Thats the same home depot that when I asked them where their egg crate was they laughed at me.  Until I wondered aimlessly for about an hour around the lighting section and finnally found it grab the associate and showed him the sticker on the shelf that clearly labeled egg crate, and said "I stand corrected."  Not very sharp over there.

I once asked if they ever stock an Oak Screan molding, and was told you can't buy it... it's not even made. I addvised him that YES it is made I can buy it any time at Toledo Plywood.

O.K. I'm done bashing HD. Lets get back to the closed loop / Foam background.

Starting the lay out for the spray heads

I tied things down with wire ties, and used some scrap wood to shim the PVC out so that it would clear the top of the tank.

The right side nearly ready for the foam. Of course the hole purpose here it to hide the PVC.

Just started the foam... WHAT IT'S NOT BLACK. Time out while we regroup

Some idea of how the spray heads will mount.

After cleaning out the white foam the best I could and applying the Black stuff

I think I did an O.K. job hiding the PVC and the spray heads are barely noticeable.  Right Side

Left Side
