I am planting a 15g high and am wanting to upgrade lighting from the original 15w bulb that came with the hood. Where is the best place to get one? I have looked on line a few places and found a 24" 65w but I think that might be a bit much-or is it. That would be a little above 4w per gal. I have yet to find a 45w fixture that would be 3 w per gallon. Can I put another 15w strip next to the one I have and get 30w? I have flourite capped with sand and a DIY yeast Co2 injection. Its all work in progress!

Is the 15 high the same footprint as a 10 gallon? I have two high tanks like this. You could fit three standard aquarium florescents on the tank if you really wanted to.
Other options:
Make your own light strip out of wood and get a DIY power compact light kit. That is what I have over my tall tanks. I have a 36 watt. You can get the light kits from www.ahsupply.com - really easy to make.
Get those cheap round incandescent shop lights and put in the florescent replacement bulbs. You can get varying wattages. Only thing here is a way to mount it over the tank. Some people suspend them from the ceiling. You could make something out of wood. You would only need three pieces with the top piece just long enough to fit the tank lip. Never tried this, but I think it would work.
Sorry I am not King Diamond. - Don't even know who that is :)

I have one of the AH Supply kits, A+! Probably the best PC reflector out there, Workhorse ballasts, and pretty good bulbs. I used scrap wood to build an enclosure for my 36w.
If I were to use PC's again, I'd go with AH Supply again. Customer service is excellent as well. No machine to talk to or anything.

I'm cheap. For ten gallon tanks, or tanks with that footprint, I buy a hood for incandescent lights. I then buy the spiral compact fluorescent 'daylight' bulbs from Menard's. They have the best price and always have the daylight type bulbs in stock.

Thanks for everyones reply. I'm goin real cost effective cause i'm laid off right now. I checked out the GE daylight bulbs they are 6500k and come in 10,15,18 and 23 watts i think. I have an incandescent hood also. Yes this is the same footprint as my 10 gal. I'll hit Menards tomorrow. Thanks everyone!
