Does anyone know how to seal Acylic to an Epoxy coated tank?

Is there a product out there?

Silicone won't work?  I know that it will adhere to glass and acrylic.  I can't believe it won't adhere to epoxy.  Have you tried using silicone?

Silicone does not adhere to acrylic.  Silicone is just for glass.  I'm not really sure what would be the best to adhere to the epoxy though.

I used silicone to glue in acrylic baffles in an 10 gallon glass sump.  It worked and held tight for at least a year.  It was still strong when I tore the tank down.  It may not bond to support a considerable amount of shear stress, but it will seal.  I guess it depends on the application.  If you need to seal some baffles in a sump, or an acrylic overflow to the back of the tank, it should suffice.  If you want to make a tank out of acrylic and hold it together with silicone, you will have a big mess.

Gorilla glue may be another option too.  I understand it is aquarium safe, but I don't know how well it adheres to either.

What are you trying to do exactly?

I might be able to forward your situation to an acrylic tank builder and see what he says. Depends on the application.

Hey,

I am working on this :

If you are able to ask a builder see what he thinks about 1.5" thick acylic for the sheet. I have talked to a few and they felt 1.5" would be more than enough.

I am going to get a sheet that is 92x48x1.5 with 4" coverage on the top and bottom and 6" on the sides. (the opening is 80x40")

Any idea how Toledo Zoo Aquarium sealed there aquariums
