Hey- anyone out there know if we can safely put the plant we pulled fromt he ditch where we got the mud minnows into our native tanks?

I grabbed a handful figuring since we found the minnows in the midst of it, they might like having it in the tanks.

My camera's having issues so Susan should be along shortly with a pic for identification purposes.

I'm not worried about putting it in my tank, nothing can be worse than duckweed, can it?  I would like to know what it is.

Wow I've never seen that plant before, then again I haven't searched ditches in the Toledo area like back at home.

Really neat looking plant.

It IS cool looking.  The leaves are sort of ruffly, and it's a cool muddy reddish color.  It's not a great deal of fun to wade through, and the stuff kept trying to grab our seine.

Plus, the mud minnows blend RIGHT into it!

That's Potamogeton crispus, the curly pondweed.  It's a moderately invasive exotic, but I think that's usually because there aren't any natives left top keep it at bay.  It takes a LOT of light.  I've only been able to get it to grow under halides.  See how you do with it.

Did you get any root clusters?  I've re-planted it successfully both ways, but with the root cluster, it does better.  Last year it went dormant at 50 degrees and popped back up when the water temp hit 55.  That was pretty cool  :)

Just me i don't think i would put anything out of a "Ditch" in my tank. Too much risk of Hitchhiker parasites etc! Just my 2 cents

But that's where we got at least half of my fish!  From ditches!

I don't think I'm going to have enough light for this stuff, but I'll give it a shot anyhow.
