Ok heres the deal... I have these little white sponges growing everywhere... inside my pumps and skimmers and powerheads... no kidding... 1000's of them...I'm pretty sure they are Q tip sponges altho I did find them in my Marine Invert book they call them Calcareous sponges... anywho I'm not freaking because they are there... they have been... but I just noticede they are inside my powerheads and pumps... how do I get rid of them?? Worried that they are gonna fry them up... I was gonna give them a piping hot bath in the sink...would that work?? And why do I have soooooo many of these things... I hope its a good thing!! some of them are over an inch long....

Fish are friends not food...

They come and go, they are filter feeders.  Try soaking your pumps in some white distilled vinegar, that usually cleans them up for me.

Man I love this hobby.

They are calcareous sponges. The calcium level must be good in your tank. Eventually, they will meet a population equilibrium.
