Not sure how many people know this, but after a long debate in my mind I took my tank down last Saturday.  Actually, corey now has everything at his place (how's it looking Corey).  I just couldn't handle all of the family stuff going on plus the tank.  I had gotten to the point that filling it up with water was just a complete pain, that is when I knew it was time.   Because before then, working on my tank was always a pleasure and not a task.

So after one week of no tank I still don't have the shakes which surprises me.  I do plan on getting back into the hobby one day, maybe a couple of years out.  I am actually thinking about going all out on a planted tank, just to try something different and a little cheaper.  I know setting up a planted tank is cheaper on equiment, but the fish and plants are cheaper then reef fish and corals, so I may go that route.  Plus i have seen some awesome looking planted tanks out there that rival some of the reef tanks.

Sorry to hear that, Doug.  I know how hard it is to balance family and the hobby, and I'm sure it's worse for you, because I don't have a little baby.  I wish you and your family the best!

Thanks for sharing.  Makes me kind of sad that someone who loves this hobby so much had to give it up.  Sounds like your priorities are with your family now - as they should be.  Hopefully in the future you will better be able to manage them both.  Hats off to you for doing the right thing - I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision.  Best wishes to you and your family.

I've known doug now for almost 8 years.  I give him a month before he has some type of fish or tank in his house! We should start taking up bets of when doug gets back into the hobby each calendar day cost $1.

Seriously though when I met doug he even had a fish tank in his cubical at work.  We always said he worked more on his fish tank at work then actually doing work!

Hey Doug! Tank is in good hands. I actually spent today scrubbing it down and working on a little aquascaping. All fish are doing great and eating like little piggies!

I actually wasn't thrilled about taking the tank initially cause I am so busy but I wanted to help you and Scott out. But now I can't keep my darn hands out of it!! I will get it back to its previous glory! I wonder how many homes it will have before it gets back to its original owner Scott!? This tank is a like a traveling gypsy! We should write a book on all of its journeys...or at least a newsletter article!

Who are you and what have you done with Doug!?!?

Seriously though, as you said, when it's not fun anymore then it's time for a break.  In the meantime I'm sure Corey will allow you visitation, and the rest of the salty TRACers will make sure to post lots of pix so you can get a vicarious fishy-fix until the day comes when you are ready to enjoy having tanks at home again.

In the meantime take care of you and the family

Yeah, you seemed a little irritated last Saturday.   Glad you are enjoying it.  I really wanted to get it back to where it should of been but between the time and money issue (NICU and stuff is very expensive even with insurance).

That tank has been a bit of a gypsy huh.

Sure the tank needed to be cleaned up a little but considering what you have gone through the last few months with your newborn I am impressed how well you kept it going!
