today has been a very sad day in fishkeeping for me today. after about a week of Gums (the fish in my avatar) fighting a fungal infection he finally gave in. he ended up being a 22"(little shorter than i thought), 10lb, baby of an oxydorus niger. he was definitely one of the greatest fish i've owned too bad he only lived to be around 3yrs old. will post pics later.

So sorry to hear that Buk.  That was a beautiful "baby" (monster) of a catfish.  Giant imposing look fish that was tame enough to pet.  Sorry about your loss.

I've got fever!

It is indeed a sad day in the fish keeping world. all who knew gums will miss him greatly.

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.

I, too, am suffering a recent loss.  It's hard to say good-bye... especially to our favorites.  I'm sure "Gums" will bring many memories for years to come.  Hats of to "Gums".

so as promised here's some of the pics of gums. just to clarify i wasn't throwing trash at him the can is a size comparison tool.

before i got him when he was a baby something tore off the top half of his tail.

now you can see why i called him Gums. during hand feeding it felt like a toothless old man gumming at my hand...lol

What a very cool fish!  I was really surprised to see all the intricate patterning on his head and body-- very, very cool.

I'm truly sorry you lost him.

Buk,

I have not been on in awhile until the other day & saw you lost your big Cat, I am sorry for your loss & hope you find another guy just as cool as Gums was.
