Are there any Freshwater Newbies out there?  Or are you just afraid to post?

Do you guys think I should open up the Newbies Threads to Annonymous posting?

I would guess that not many newbies have found the site. Once we start getting more publicity and sending out more flyers that will change. A lot of newbies I've talked to are rather suprised by the concept of a tropical fish club.

We should think about a series of good beginner topics to do at meetings, and mention that in the meeting notice. We could recap them on the website to build a little library of helpful hints.

I just found this site. I had been reading aquariumadvice, that's how I got most of my information when I started. I'm not exactly new to this, it's about my third year. I haven't really attempted any difficult fish, I've had barbs, platties, cories, I have a clown pleco now, danios, a betta, mollies, had a celebes rainbow for a while. I've done really well with those fish though, although I know they're in general pretty hardy fish. Anyway, in response to what you said, maybe it's just that people haven't found this site. I actually wasn't aware that there were so many fish clubs in Ohio. At first I wasn't sure either if this was strictly saltwater or if you welcomed freshwater as well.

We're slowly getting the word out about our club and site.  We've been putting flyers into some of the local fish stores.  We're a club that is setup for both Fresh and Saltwater Hobbyist.  Most of our members are split and interested in both sides of the Hobby.  We feel that some and most techniques in the Hobby can be used for both sides and be benificial to all.  Alot of the people that are on the site that only have Marine tanks started out for years as freshwater hobbist.  So they have lots of experience they can provide to both sides, and who knows maybe someday you'll be interested in starting up a Marine tank as well, and running both Fresh and Marine Tanks.  Especially if you have the help of all of us to get you familiar with it.

Thanks for posting and please feel free to post away and also post pictures of your tank.

It's a Yahoo group people use to give away stuff.  It's a great way to get rid of stuff you don't want.  You advertise something, people e-mail you if they want it, you pick someone to give it to, and they come pick it up.  No selling allowed, just giveaways.  There is another group called Toledo Cafe for selling stuff.
