I just finished cutting a plastic backstrip to fit a glass top for one of my tanks.  I didn't cut myself this time, but it looks like something fashioned by a drunken beaver.  And it doesn't fit well either.

How do you all do it?

Susan,

Don't think you're the only one, I usually go with the drunken beaver approach as well. When I already have them in my hand, I'll use a pair of tin snips. <not really a common occurrence., They cut plastic really well and you don't have to worry about getting cut

I like to score them with a metal utility knife (like one of the nice Lutz ones, not some chincey plastic cased one) and then snap 'em.

That's sort of what I was attempting to do, but I was using a big exacto knife.  It had a new blade, but I couldn't get a straight and deep score line.

Use a metal straight edge as a guide.

I did.  I'm going to get some clamps for next time, I couldn't hold it steady.
