If you decide to keep the idea you could consider doing something like the following.  It's pretty easy and you could still use the same filter.  And you can have plants but since they are above the water the goldies can't get them.  Search vivarium or paladarium for more pics  Of course you can do one with more water and without hood, etc.

That's a great tank!  I had to plan mine around the goldfish, since they needed a bigger home.  I'll be adding plants, I plan to fill up the shelf behind with plants and hopefully find some to float in the tank that won't get eaten.

Susan,

I'll see if I can find some pics of the tank I was telling you about that we had setup in the shop when we were on Alexis. (We've had prob. 12 or so computers since then so they're probably lost.)

I remembert this!  It was gorgeous. This was when you were in that little strip kind of near big lots, right?  Before you moved over to Alexis/Secor?

Well, here's what I came up with.  It's a 65 gallon tank.  I'll be adding some more plants later.  I have some water sprite and some plastic plants in it now.   I put a shelf up behind the tank to put plants on.  I have a pothos to trail into the water and a mangrove in the 2 1/2 gallon tank on the shelf.  I'm keeping the water level lower to keep any splashing water in, and just in case the goldfish jump.

Very cool!

Thanks!  I'm really happy with it.  The fish seem happy too!

I remember it too, man it has been a while and a whole lot of improvement/growth since the days of the shop with the windows so covered in condensation that you couldn't see in... lol

One of my friends used to have a frog/goldfish setup with a waterfall feature, although it was a 120 tank you could do the same thing.....

What he did was silicone a glass panel about 6" down from the top of the tank and about 3/4 across it.  He had a waterfall complete with fog maker on top of the glass piece that ran down and finally trickled into the tank below.

I always wanted a setup like that but never got around to doing it

We just wanted to make it feel "tropical", hence the name.
