Seriously Cool Water-oriented Device.
I'm pretty sure that's what that is.
LOL. Well, it could stand for that TOO!!!
SCWD -Switching; Current; Water; Director (pronounced squid)
I was looking into them myself a few months back and saw that Dr. F & S had some for relatively cheap compared to the alternative wavemaker options...
The squid has one inlet and two outlets that have the water diverted/switched between outlets as it is pumped from your sump return. A pretty nifty and cheap alternative for creating random water movement!
Mare's definition is the not technical term!

Thank you sir. It's good to have my genius ability to define technial terms in simple language recognized instead of ridiculed. (Susan, you got a hat-tipping smiley??)
(for those who don't know me, YES I am KIDDING here!)

It was a pleasure to talk with you this afternoon Jeff, and look forward to meeting you soon.
Jeff, how has the new guy fit into you tank? I do hope he made the trip back home with you O.K. I can't wait to get the SCWD plumbed but like I said I'm on vacation this week to get some things done that I didn't get to this summer. So no new projects yet.

For those who have not seen a SCWD in action, Trilby Tropicals has one set up on their new coral tank. The water movement is awesome!

Not sure if everyone was aware of these or not, but they make a larger SCWD now-- with 1" threaded connections rather then using hoses....
Can handle more flow then the old one also.... for those of us with larger tanks.....not that I own one-- but wondered when I first saw those why they didn't make a bigger one....

Are these loud at all when they switch? For $40, I might look into getting one. Be running 750GPH so switching every 4 seconds, nice.
I need to watch how loud my tank is since it sits up against our bedroom wall.

Matt at Trilby opened the housing around his setup to let me check it out. It was pretty much silent. The only noise was from the pump pushing the SCWD.
