Here is an example of how I photograph my guppies outside of the tank. They are in a V shaped chamber filled with gravel and with a blue background. The intensity of the color does not represent the real color because different light sources bring out different colorations in the guppies.

Have you tried using a grey card as a backdrop? Camera shops sell them to use as a reference for lighting. That would be more color-neutral. Or maybe a piece of grey mattboard- what they use for picture framing.

Is not scheduled yet, but approximately in a month of April, we are going to have a visitors from Michigan.   I already invited two master guppy breeders and judges, Mr. Stan Shubel author of two books, The Proper Care of Guppies and Aquarium Care of Fancy Guppies and Mr. Gary Mousseau from Michigan Guppy Breeders Club. They are the best guppy breeders in the Unites States. I hope up to this time we get nearer to a certain conclusion on perception of light influence on some line of those eye-catching fish.

Looks like I will also be making the trip with my father Gary Mousseau and good friend Stan Shubel. I have not been in the hobby nearly as long as they have but growing up around them both has played a great deal into my success. In the past 4 years of "Showing" my fish I have 14 class championships. I am only two years of service away from being a master breeder. I have all the other requirements. I will also be there for the questions I am shirr many of you have. Below is a tank of fish that I had last year at this time. Two of these males where put to gin a tank entry to Best of Show Tank last year.

Hello Dave! Before we will be able to find real scientific explanation, and come across the mechanism I would like to share with you my experience with show guppies last year organized by Guppy Associates of Greater Cleveland June 3rd 2006.I was rising for two years very difficult color, green guppies in my fish room, under three Tungsten 50 watts halogen bright white light lamps, ideal for basement fish room.  I was surprised how beautifully my guppies sounded in  fish room green, but when I placed them on the show bench with another green show guppy, to my surprise a blue reflection of caudal fin was so prominent.  So, I transferred them to blue delta category and… I won Blue Delta category and my fish became 4th Best of Show Delta Guppy. I ask several people for clarification, but inquiry stays behind unanswered.

I can remember helping you pick out what fish to put together to make your entries. You had some nice looking fish. The reason why your fish where blue and not green was because of the lighting that they where placed underneath. Anytime you put a light directly over a green guppy it will turn blue 98% of the time. The only exception I have ever had to this was the Best Of Show Green Delta I had, which the photo is posted below. When we took your fish and put them with the Greens they where green because they did not have light directly over them. Then when we took them to the blues with the light directly above they where blue. So it was kind of a toss up call. I took a look at the competition of the green class and decided to recommend that you put them in the Blue class. So that goes to show on how much a little difference in the angle a light is placed at on a green can also be just important as the type or wattage or bulb that they are placed by. Note that Greens are the most sensitive to light changes than any other type of guppy.

Hello everybody! As you can see, in upcoming spring time we are going to have not two, but three visitors at the same time, Mr. Stan Shubel, Gary and Tim Mousseau. Tim in short period of time accomplished 14 class championships and he is two years away from becoming a guppy’s master breeder. Knowing, how difficult breed one line is, the sound is incredible. This is great news not only for guppy lovers but for all TRAC members who loves fish.

Different intensity of light may have impact on coloration of fish.

I was captivating a several photos of single guppy.

Briney Dave’s expertise about salt and fresh water hobby is highly respected among TRAC aquarists, and fortunately for guppy’ lovers, he fined guppies irresistible and very appealing.

Not to mention that the Cast on Dave's arm is a reminder to all how dangerous your aquariums can be when working on them.  Safety first!

I can't get over how truly gorgeous your guppies are.  I always kind of thought guppies were the like just for beginne's, the Yugo of freshwater, but wow, am I seeing how completely uninformed I was!

The pictures you guys have posted of your fish have really shown me how beautiful and striking these fish can be.
