From this pic it looks like they've grown a lot! I like that pearly gold color.

Do you know what species they are...... there are several species sold as celebes halfbeak. I have nomorhamphus leimi, and would certainly be niterested in more if you have any for sale. Or if you could tell me where you got yours. Thankyou

I bought the halfbeaks at Pet Supplies Plus on Central last winter. I was really surprised to see them there, but they get interesting fish sometimes. They had two pairs, and I bought them both. One male and female are really healthy, and the female has had two sucessful pregnancies so far. She just dropped a third batch of fry, but I can't find any of them. The tank is pretty crowded now, they may have been eaten. The other male is subordinate and hides a lot. The second female is thin and has never looked pregnant. So far, all the fry look much plumper than her, they look more like their mom.
The only drawback is that they are in brackish water. They were when I bought them, and I've just started switching them over to fresh. I'm doing it very slowly so as not to lose any. I was planning to take some to an auction to sell, but I'd be happy to sell some to you both.
I wrote to Wet Web Media and sent a picture, Neale Monks wrote back and said that Nomorhamphus liemi are the only halfbeaks with a curly lower lip. Here's the pic I sent, check out the lip on the male. This was taken shortly after I got them. They are really hard to photograph. They are skittish and zip around the tank if they catch me looking at them.

Cool! Thankyou. I'm a bit worried that my male might bother my female too much w/o other options in the tank as she seems very unreceptive to him . As far as the brackish situation goes....what specific gravity are you down to now? I sure wouldn't want to get some and shock them .
thanks again

The specific gravity in the halfbeak tank is 1.004. I'm going to do a water change tonight and drop the salinity a little. I want to have them pretty much fresh in three weeks.
There is an auction on September 20 that I want to take some to. If anyone wants to buy some before that, I have at least 6 to 10 I can let go. I'm asking $7.50 a piece, or two pairs for $25. If anyone wants any, I'd advise waiting a couple of weeks for me to acclimate them. That way I'm taking the chances, not you.

Cool! Let us know if/when they have fry! Make sure you keep the tank covered. They are jumpers!
