I MAY want to try a salt water tank. I have a 29gal that I could use. I have been talking to some of the good people at the Fish Doctors in Adrian, and one of the fish-keepers at Sweet Feed about it. I really want to try the Corals - of course, but I like the recommendation from the girl at Sweet Feed. She advised to just start out with a fish only tank, live rock, some inverts for at least a year. Get some experience learning about the chemistry and maintenance - then try the corals. It seems like a lot of maintenance with all the testing, but if it is only one of the tanks, may not be too bad.
I bet I can learn a lot from the salty people here!

Jumping in a tad late here but Welcome!
The best way for me to learn is just to talk to fellow hobbyist. I've learned more through conversation, in less amount of time, than reading on forums. Don't get me wrong, forums rock. But getting immediate feedback from one or multiple people is amazing. I've been in two hour long conversations on lighting alone only to walk away scratching my head (I blame this on Corey).
Marine tanks are a challenge but can be just as challenging as a high tech planted tank. Each has their own advantage/disadvantage. I've seen some freshwater tanks that are just mind blowingly complex and some marine tanks that are simple as can be (like my pico). I'd say you could start with soft corals as many are very, very forgiving.
Just keep on reading and picking people's brains. I bugged the crap (probably still do) out of Richard, Corey, Scott, and a few others on my tanks.

Thanks all. I am busy planting, planting, buying, planting. Getting the tanks in shape. I am not an aquascaper, I just put kind-of slam it in with a slight eye to see if it looks good to me. Still a long way to go. I'll try to get a picture of the tank I just set up at work.
I really need to wait a few months till the plants start growing out and I decide to move this here, and "oh, that didn't work" kind of thing.
As far as aquarium maintenance... hmm... Well, I change exactly 1/3 of the water in each tank (28 now) each week. Carefully balancing the chemistry with R/O water and gently placing this perfect water into each tank with extreme love... There is no algae of any kind in any tank and the pH is a perfect 7.0.. (are any of you buying this?)..
How about this: I do what I can when I can......

Yeah, my tanks are always perfect, too.
