Ok not marine propigation but still...LOL

We got the first group of baby chicks that we will be growing this spring on Friday.  They come day old and amazingly cute.  The kids have already learned chick speak and come running when they hear any of the its time to play or we need you peeps.

we got six americana pullets.  They lay easter colored eggs (pink, green, and blue)

needless to say: that killed a whole weekend messing around with them and playing

As soon as I know all of our usb devises are free of the virus and worm issues I have we will try to post a couple pics

Thats great Dave.  My wife teaches second grade and every year she hatches chicken eggs in the class room.  She put the eggs in the incubator last Wendesday.  A couple days after the eggs hatch I go to her class room and give a little lesson focused on the importance of reading for that is the way that I learnt so much about eggs, chickens, corals, ect.  Good luck with the chicks.

very nice:  My marine lab students were more than relieved to find out the chicks were not staying in the lab and becoming yet another project for them to care for LOL

I know, right? I was hoping for some Monday morning eye candy.

Sounds cool Dave...and definately a different project for you, eh? At least compared to all the salt stuff you have going on!

different and easier for sure.  no need to do anything but water,  food,  and keep them warm.  oh, and pay attention to them as they are very social

We got this group from the FFA.  they buy several boxes every spring

check out backyard chicks.com for a family freindly forum.  I also bought raising chickens for dummies as a primer

like corals or fish you need to read up and ask questions from folks already doing well

I strongly suggest finding a local breeder and buying from them rather than going through a web hatchery that turn out 100's of birds a day.  My birds passed by the knowing eye of the FFA teachers before i got them so I know they are decent.

We are buying the chicks we really want from a breeder near Dayton (Buckeyes a rare breed that started here in Ohio) The Americanas are more of an after thought to keep my wife happy but are still cute.

I have raised a lot of chickens and turkeys with my ex step kids for 4-H projects, if you have any questions let me know, I might be able to help you out. If you are looking for some good quality birds, any kind of poultry from chickens and turkeys, pheasants, ducks gees, peafowl etc, I know of an excellent hatchery to get them from and its only about an hour to hour and half drive from the BG area. I am not sure if it would be allowed to put the name on here so I won't right now, but if a mod says ok I can put it later or PM me for info.

Hey thanks a lot.  There is no reason to not be able to post a name like that here.  Might be a bit different if they sold corals but not a sponsor but chicks are fine LOL

I should have all the birds that we want right now (assuming that the buckeye guy comes through for me)

The name of the hatchery is Eagle Nest Poultry, they are in Oceola, OH. If you do a search they did have a website, but last I checked it they hadn't updated it for a while but it will at least give you contact info.
